DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IS DRIVING SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHANGES WE HAVE EXPERIENCED IN OUR SOCIETY.

We believe Australian governments can capitalise on the opportunity digital transformation presents, and work with the public to find new solutions to old problems.

ACADEMY PROGRAM

We run intensive innovation programs to skill-up faster, break down silos, and reimagine the public service.

Bringing the private and public sectors together to work on challenges over 6 weeks, the Academy introduces innovators to user-centered design, collaboration and agile work practices.

FELLOWSHIP Program

We pair talented technologists with government innovators to work on complex problems in the public sphere.

Teams of three, made up designers, programmers and user experience experts from the private sector, are embedded into government departments or agencies for 6 - 12 month projects.

  • They combined their skills with the experience of end-users rather than simply telling us how we should do things. In terms of culture change at Victoria Legal Aid we now have a better appreciation and understanding of design, technology and rapid improvement techniques.
    — Khoi Cao-Lam, Victoria Legal Aid
  • It’s opened up our eyes around better ways of dealing with innovation and technology rather than our old approach, where we’d talk amongst ourselves and have a think about it and then go out to tender. It gets quite weighted and heavy, whereas this process was light.
    — Mel Hardie, DELWP
  • Learning from, and working with, the fellows has brought a dynamic perspective to Victoria Legal Aid, building our capacity to use design thinking, rapid prototyping and co-design. I am looking forward to seeing this prototype develop and also looking forward to see how Victoria Legal Aid can continue to grow and explore in applying user-centred design principles.
    — Bevan Warner, Victoria Legal Aid
  • Our Code for Australia Fellow made a significant contribution to digital innovation at the centre. He helped us make abstract ideals real with rapid prototyping, so that we advanced new ideas, captured people’s interest and built momentum more quickly. Having a fellow as part of our team, cut down the barriers to acting on new ideas, as he understood our organisation, was flexible and we didn’t have to procure external IT services.
    — Louise Bassett, Neighbourhood Justice Centre
