I would recommend it to young people, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to change things. Think of it as the new military service if you can come and help us at Code for Australia for six months, and then you move on with your life. But I’m sure it will have a great impact in your community.
Another thing for me was getting to see government working from the other side. I’ve been in the open data movement for a while, using open data but haven’t been involved in the process. Seeing it from the other side really opened my eyes to why it sometimes does take so long.
If you want to make a change, if you’re interested in systems and the way society works and government works and you think you could improve it, or that it needs improving then it’s a great challenge for anyone who wants to enter that space.
To feel like you’re working within a small team of only three people, where everyone has different backgrounds, different expertise and experience - you really get to learn a lot from each other if you’re open to it. It’s a great learning experience.
