Help councils reduce their carbon emissions

The opportunity

We’re seeking a Product Owner to work on a climate change calculator tool (SeeChange) within our volunteer-led program Civic Makers.

This would suit someone who is self-motivated and wants to gain experience leading a small tight-knit team in a fun and purpose-led environment.

This is a volunteer position and we anticipate the weekly time commitment is roughly 4-6 hours.

Who are we?

Civic Makers is a volunteer-led division of Code for Australia. Civic Makers brings together volunteers that want to contribute to the community, build relationships and share in work that is meaningful and has a sustainable long term impact.

We work in partnership with local governments to collaboratively build tech solutions to civic issues in our communities, aiming to create positive outcomes together.

We are currently building a tool for local councils to track their staff commute emissions. Our first partner is the City of Greater Bendigo.

The role

  • The SeeChange Product Owner will set the vision, goals, and priorities for the team and act as the voice of the customer, and be the source of truth for the product

  • This is a volunteer position and we anticipate the weekly time commitment is roughly 4-6 hours

  • We work mostly asynchronously however also meet regularly after hours

  • We ask that the Product Owner commit to three months with Civic Makers

  • You’ll get fantastic experience in a supportive, fun and welcoming environment

Key responsibilities

  • Work with the development and design teams to plan and develop the product roadmap

  • Prioritise the product backlog according to stakeholder needs and team capacity

  • Work with council stakeholders to define and document product development requirements

  • Communicate product planning and release scheduling processes with council stakeholders

  • Identify product development opportunities through ideation, discovery and insights

  • Improve and maintain internal processes around ways of working and team culture
